Holiday Tagged Out Top of 4th But Called Safe
Well Chock another one up to the Umpires! Saturday October 22, 2011.
Game 4 of the World Series and the umpires are at it again. This time they call Holiday of the St. Louis Cardinals safe when he was clearly tagged out as the second half of a double play at first base in the top of the 4th inning. This would have been the 2nd out of the inning and would have severly curtailed the rally in that half of the inning.

Below you will find a quick video of the tag being applied.

Berkmans 4th Inning 2 RBI Single Was A Foul Ball
On Tuesday Oct 19th, 2011 in Game one of the World Series, St. Louis was given a gift from the Umpires. In all my years of watching baseball I have never seen the umpires expand the bounds of Fair Territory before, not once but at 2 critical juctures in the game.
Red arrow shows the impact point (in foul territory) of the 2 Run RBI "foul ball" giving St. Louis a 2 run lead in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Later in the bottom of the 6th inning the impact point of Berkmans 2 run RBI foul can still clearly be seen. Also, in the Top of the 9th inning the umpires again expanded fair territory to include the toe (inside the batters box) of Beltre's left shoe. A foul tip hit down and bouncing off of Beltre's left toe and into the feild of play was then fielded by the 3rd baseman and thrown to first base, the umpire then calls Beltre OUT! Clearly and as Beltre so rightfully pointed out to the homeplate umpire at the time, it was a fould tip and Strike 2, not out number 2. This was the 2nd out in the top of the 9th inning.
