The Politics of Reality in DC

The Politics of Reality.

There are many lingering questions about the nationality of Barack Obama possibly aka Barry Soetoro, many would like those questions answered. There are a lot of questions in this world that may never get answered and others we just wont get the truth.

History is written by the journalists, you do not have to agree, but it is a fact. Journalists are writing history as we speak, questions that should have been asked and answers that should have been demanded have been left untouched. A platoon of “investigative” reporters was deployed to Alaska to go through the trashcans at the Governors Mansion to parse each and every credit card receipt and memo. Joe the plumber had no less than 100 reporters camped on his lawn; he is not even running for office. All he did was ask a question.

No one in the media wants to ask the question of Mr. Obama, where were you born? Why wont the media demand his actual birth certificate, not the “certification of birth” (there is a difference) that is posted on his fight the smears website?

Follow up:

Under the Patriot Act among other state and federal labor laws you and I must prove our citizenship and legal right to work to a perspective employer, and we must provide it on demand. Given the problems with illegal aliens and terrorists living in our midst, it is not unreasonable. Yet a contracted federal employee is not being required to provide his citizenship, instead we are required to take his word for it and go on our way. Yes congressmen, senators and the President are contracted employees of the federal government and are supposed to be responsible to the voters of our nation. It is supposed in the checks and balances established within our constitution.

Too many times now the inference is put forth that this issue has been settled. The CIA or the FBI would have done the checks on his records and all must be in order. That claim on the surface seems to make sense and therefore should put all questions to rest. However, there is are a few glaring issues both with the theory and the political reality that shatter that supposition.

Elected members of congress do not go through routine FBI background and security checks as a matter of DOJ policy. DOJ makes the assumption that the voters would have vetted any questions during the election cycle. Therefore the FBI is not called on, nor are they expected to run routine checks on Senators or Congressmen.

Due to the fact that members of the Congress are elected they are granted access to our most well kept secrets. The staffs of these elected officials however are routinely background checked, and must pass security clearance screenings. So the FBI would have had no reason nor do they have a policy to investigate or otherwise involve themselves in the Obama citizenship issue.

CIA does not technically have investigative authority over U.S. citizens on U.S. soil. They are primarily an overseas intelligence-gathering agency, with little or no activity or authority here at home. CIA for the same reasons as the FBI would not routinely scrutinize an elected member of the congress. They would not have been asked to provide any information that would have been needed for a security clearance; as none was issued or required.

INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service), the Immigration service does have the authority to review Mr. Obama’s records. Has a complaint been filed with this agency? There are questions about his birth and immigration status. For instance Lolo Soetoro did adopt Obama in Indonesia, then at what point did he apply to attain or regain his U.S. citizenship? For reasons that will be clear shortly, they would not have an inclination to investigate a sitting U.S. Senator.

The political reality of Washington D.C.
Inside the beltway is a different world than the rest of this country. Bureaucrats, unionized government employees populate our various institutions and agencies of government. There is no great incentive to pop-up from their cubicles and make waves. Take for instance the FEC worker who upon spotting inconsistencies in the Obama campaign finances approached his superiors and was rebuked. He could not and did not push the issue further as no one in D.C. seemed to be interested.

CIA, INS, FBI and the DOJ (Department of Justice) are all agencies that answer to the executive branch; their employees and executives serve “at the pleasure of the President”. Earlier this year President Bush came under fire for terminating 9 prosecutors at the DOJ. Those attorneys were his employees to fire if he so desired. Bill Clinton terminated almost 100 and there were no congressional hearings convened to enquire into the matter.

The Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader have both proven themselves over the last two years to be partisan political attack dogs. They have both taken it upon themselves to undermine and interfere with the Presidents authority at every turn. They have made attempts to inject the Congress into matters of which they have no authority as per the separation of powers.

The main stream media has taken it upon itself to side with the Democratically controlled congress on these issues, as they did with the U.S. Attorney firings.

The Bush administration either cannot or will not challenge this interference.
Given these realities it becomes difficult to see any agency of the government reviewing documents that pertain to Mr. Obama’s citizenship. Employees of these agencies have been treated to an administration that will not provide them with support. Case in point, two U.S. Border Patrol agents currently sit in prison cells for doing their jobs. Overzealous prosecutors were allowed to drag them into courtrooms to stand trial. The President could at any time issue pardons to these brave men, whose only crime was using force to protect our country from illegal aliens caught in the commission of felonies.
It appears, and this is merely conjecture, that the administration is not willing to tackle this political bombshell. If the Bush administration instructed any of these agencies to investigate Obama’s citizenship, the political fallout would be astronomical. The congressional hearings into the Republican Presidents alleged abuse of power to sabatoge the candidacy of a Democratic Senator would go on for years.

The Democratic leaders in the congress, assisted by mainstream media journalists would launch into a tirade about the persecution of a fellow Democrat. We the people would be treated to a parade of talking heads assailing the Republicans for attempting to steal the election by discrediting a patriotic Senator. The perception would be pushed onto the public that the administration and the Republican Party were out to get Obama by any means necessary. The climate would be created so that even if the allegations proved true, it would appear it was a partisan smear tactic.

Given the administrations lack of support and defense for various agency workers; who would want to be the one to start such inquiries?

The political reality in Washington as it stands is such that no agency under a Republican administration could possibly investigate the allegations of Mr. Obama’s citizenship or lack thereof, and expect to survive.

As to the various court cases currently filed in both federal and state courts, while these are worthwhile endeavors, it would be surprising if anything substantive came of it. Unfortunately no matter what the relevant case law, precedent or procedural rules are, it is difficult to see a judge making a substantive ruling on these issues. No sitting judge ever wants to be overturned on appeal. No judge wants to go on record telling the world there is no Santa Claus. Imagine if you could, would you want to be the judge to issue a ruling that orders Obama to withdrawal from the election today? No judge, no court, no matter how fair and forthright they may be could possibly want to be in that situation.

Conjecture on the subject points to delay, and the likely outright dismissal so the courts do not have to make a ruling. It would allow them to defer to the discretion of the congress after the election as to the fitness of Obama to serve. That way the courts have not appeared to take a side.

Reality and Political Reality are two very different things, Republicans are not allowed to question or investigate the allegations or crimes of Democrats (just ask Ken Star).

That is how I see it, but I could be wrong.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. --Declaration of Independence.
