Dont Annex My Backyard

(Letter to the Editor in Reference to Texas state Sen. Steve Ogden's stance against the right of the people to get a vote when a Texas City or Town attempts to forcebly annex thier property)

I just heard our Senator Ogden's interview with WTAW.
I am appalled.

For years, I have questioned his conservatism and pro-Texas values. This just made it obvious to everyone.

State Rep. Fred Brown is sponsoring legislation to make this annexation issue a matter for voters - a very pro-individual responsibility and more importantly pro-Texan stance on the matter.

Follow up:

The city of College Station city council no longer listens to the voters and attempts to impose totalitarian governance on we, the residents. It is high time the state stepped in and restricts local governments from kidnapping the rights of property owners.
I should have expected Sen. Ogden to come down on the side of bigger, more powerful, government wielding the power to seize private property rights from law abiding Texans. That is what his history has shown he will do. I was just hoping the message that the voters sent in November about government retracting their claws would have gotten through. Apparently it didn't.

As anyone well knows, imminent domain laws are an affront to the private property rights of citizens. This practice and the practice of forced annexation flies in the face of the very founding principles of our great state (Texas) and this nation. Ignoring legislation that restricts cities from arbitrarily annexing or standing by silently while the practice continues unchecked, demonstrates another big government, anti-individual rights position that will not be tolerated. And come election time, you can be sure that the voters will speak… again.

Shame on State Senator Steve Ogden. I implore him to talk to your constituents that work the jobs and walk the city streets. Ask them how they feel about this before imposing YOUR will. You will get an eye-opener.
We want government to allow us to make our own decisions. THAT is why you were elected, Sen. Ogden.
Guess we are going to have to make more wheels squeaky so that our government will listen.

Sincerely, a devout Texas Conservative

Letter was published in a local newspaper. Some comments have been added for clarity of those not locally knowledgeable about the issue of the forced annexation of welborn area.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. --Declaration of Independence.
